Meta has signed an Environmental Attributes Purchase Agreement (EAPA) with ENGIE North America to deliver 260 MW of renewable energy from the Sypert Branch solar project in Milam County, Texas. This collaboration supports Meta’s growing energy needs in line with its ambitious net-zero goals.
The Sypert Branch project, situated 70 miles northeast of Austin, Texas, is expected to commence operations in late 2025. Meta will purchase the entire 260 MW output from the project, which is being developed and operated by ENGIE. The project will provide power to Meta’s nearby Temple, TX, data center.
Dave Carroll, Chief Renewables Officer and Senior Vice President at ENGIE North America, stated: “We are delighted to announce this agreement to work with Meta by providing renewable power that supports their growth and aligns with their net zero commitments. We are proud that ENGIE’s proven track record in developing, building, and operating renewable assets puts us at the forefront of the energy transition, and this agreement with Meta recognizes the importance of that track record to our customers.”
Meta’s procurement from Sypert Branch adds to its renewable energy portfolio, which now exceeds 12 GW. Urvi Parekh, Head of Clean Energy at Meta, emphasized the impact of this partnership: “We are delighted to be collaborating with ENGIE to make the renewable energy transition a reality through projects like Sypert Branch. Since 2020, we have maintained net zero emissions in our global operations – these efforts are supported by relationships such as those with ENGIE, who can consistently deliver and operate projects like Sypert Branch to help meet our energy needs.”
The Sypert Branch project is expected to create more than 300 local jobs during its construction phase, with a broader economic impact that includes over $69 million in tax revenue throughout the project’s lifecycle. Approximately $45 million of this tax revenue will be directed to local school districts, further emphasizing the community benefits of the initiative.
The agreement also advances ENGIE’s renewable footprint, with nearly 1 GW of signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) in the U.S. in 2024 to date. ENGIE’s role as a leading developer in corporate PPAs underscores its commitment to pioneering clean energy solutions across North America.
