Boston Consulting Group (BCG) has announced its purchase of 50,250 tonnes of certified carbon dioxide removals (CDRs) through ClimeFi, reinforcing its status as a global leader in durable carbon removal. This marks BCG’s second-largest purchase to date, bringing its total carbon removals to nearly 200,000 tonnes and positioning the firm among the top ten global buyers of durable CDRs.
The purchase is part of BCG’s broader strategy to neutralize 100% of its emissions by 2030. By investing in a diverse array of cutting-edge carbon removal technologies, BCG aims to address climate change while fostering market innovation.
BCG’s portfolio includes advanced solutions such as:
- Enhanced rock weathering via Lithos Carbon, which captures CO2 and improves soil health.
- Microbial carbon mineralization by Andes, leveraging agricultural fields to sequester CO2.
- Concrete mineralization through O.C.O. Technologies, embedding CO2 into building materials.
- Biochar projects managed by Exomad Green and Euthenia Energy, providing long-term carbon storage.
David Webb, BCG’s Chief Sustainability Officer, emphasized the importance of diversification in scaling carbon removal efforts. “By continuing to expand the CDR technologies we support, we are securing high-quality durable removals to neutralize our emissions and unlocking the potential of these technologies to contribute to global climate targets,” he said.
The collaboration with ClimeFi plays a critical role in ensuring transparency and scalability for BCG’s investments. Paolo Piffaretti, CEO of ClimeFi, highlighted the significance of BCG’s leadership in advancing the carbon removal market. “BCG’s commitment to exploring diverse solutions is critical to ensuring sustainable growth. Their trust in our approach enables us to build a robust and impactful portfolio,” he stated.
BCG’s investments not only support carbon neutrality goals but also contribute to the innovation and growth of the global carbon removal market. By prioritizing advanced technologies and scalable solutions, the firm is helping to accelerate climate action and set benchmarks for corporate sustainability leadership.
