Engie and Meta Announce New Renewable Energy Deal for Texas Solar Project

Engie North America, a subsidiary of France-based Engie Group, has signed a new renewable energy supply agreement with Meta. Under the Environmental Attributes Purchase Agreement (EAPA), Engie will provide Meta with 200 MW of renewable energy and associated environmental attributes from its Anson 2 solar project in Jones County, Texas. The facility is expected to begin operations in late 2025.

This deal marks the second agreement between the companies in recent months, following a 260 MW agreement announced in November for energy from Engie’s Sypert Branch solar project in Milam County, Texas.

Dave Carroll, Chief Renewables Officer and EVP of Engie North America, stated, “We are excited to expand our relationship with Meta, increasing the provision of renewable power that supports their growth and aligns with their net zero commitments. This is the second agreement we completed with Meta in 2024 and reflects our commitment to develop and operate projects that meet the needs of our customers. We are delighted to further our collaboration with Meta, working together to meet growing demand for power in the U.S. and accelerate the energy transition.”

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, aims to achieve net-zero emissions across its value chain by 2030. The company has been a significant corporate buyer of renewable energy, meeting 100% of its operational energy needs with renewable sources since 2020. By 2025, Meta anticipates adding 9.8 GW of renewable energy to U.S. grids through its supported wind and solar projects.

Urvi Parekh, Meta’s Global Head of Energy, commented, “We are delighted to be deepening our collaboration with Engie, making the clean energy transition a reality through the projects we are working on together. Since 2020, we have maintained net zero emissions in our global operations – these efforts are supported by relationships such as those with Engie with a strong track record of delivering and operating projects that support our operations, help meet our energy needs and implement our net zero goals.”

Once operational, the Anson 2 solar project will expand Engie’s North America renewable energy portfolio to approximately 8 GW of solar, wind, and battery storage projects either in operation or under construction.icon
