Climate change is the biggest crisis facing the world. To achieve the net-zero target by 2050, developed countries need to advance their emissions target to 2040.
India’s G20 Sherpa, Amitabh Kant, emphasized the urgency of the situation and called on G7 countries and China to take the lead.
Net-zero emissions mean that no further emissions are added to the atmosphere. India has committed to reaching net-zero by 2070, while China aims for 2060.
The G7 nations have pledged to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Kant also highlighted the need to restructure international financial institutions to support sustainable development and infrastructure.
The importance of the Green Development Pact, including goals such as Hydrogen Principles, Tripling RE Capacity Targets, and the Global Biofuels Alliance, was emphasized in achieving the net-zero target.
It is crucial to reduce emissions by half by 2030 and reach net-zero emissions by 2050 to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.
