Inauguration of the Circular Economy Hub at Mirafiori Complex
Stellantis has officially opened the SUSTAINera Circular Economy Hub (CE Hub) at the Mirafiori Complex in Turin, Italy. This facility stands as Europe’s first for entirely national production of lithium chemicals, vital for the supply chain of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). The CE Hub embodies Stellantis’ comprehensive 4R strategy (Reman, Repair, Reuse, and Recycle) and marks a significant step in promoting the company’s Circular Economy goals.
Functions and Goals of the CE Hub
The Circular Economy Hub is dedicated to prolonging the life of parts and vehicles. Activities at the facility include remanufacturing engines, gearboxes, and EV batteries, reconditioning vehicles, and dismantling end-of-life vehicles. By 2025, the Hub aims to manage over 50,000 remanufactured parts, with a target of 150,000 by 2030. Additionally, a Sorting Center within the Hub will facilitate the supply of cores for remanufacturing and recycling, targeting 2.5 million worn parts by 2025 and 8 million by 2030.
Sustainable Practices and Operational Efficiency
The CE Hub is poised to enhance sustainable practices in the automotive industry. Utilizing renewable heat from lithium brine resources, the facility will produce lithium with a net-zero carbon footprint, a pioneering achievement in the lithium industry. This method also concurrently generates renewable energy, aiming to reduce environmental impacts significantly.
