SodaStream, a leading sparkling water brand and subsidiary of PepsiCo, has entered into a 15-year corporate power purchase agreement (PPA) with Enlight Renewable Energy, a global renewable energy platform. This agreement will enable SodaStream’s global production sites in Israel to transition to 100% renewable energy by the beginning of 2024.
Under the agreement, SodaStream’s factories in Ashkelon and Idan Negev will operate using electricity sourced from Enlight’s solar and storage facilities. Once the transition is complete, SodaStream’s products will be manufactured using renewable energy sources, contributing to the company’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2040.
The introduction of new market regulations in Israel has allowed green power producers like Enlight to enter into direct purchase agreements with major companies like SodaStream. This marks a significant development for the country’s electricity market and may accelerate the adoption of renewable energy across the Israeli economy.
SodaStream has long been committed to environmental responsibility, particularly in reducing single-use plastic waste. In 2022 alone, the company successfully eliminated approximately 5 billion single-use plastic bottles. The partnership with Enlight further demonstrates SodaStream’s dedication to sustainability and its global strategy to preserve the environment.
Enlight Renewable Energy applauds SodaStream for joining in the fight against the climate crisis through this strategic partnership. By signing a PPA, SodaStream aims to lower its energy costs and expedite its transition to net-zero emissions. This trend is expected to continue, benefitting customers and driving returns on Enlight’s renewable energy projects.
The agreement underscores SodaStream’s position as a pioneer in the industry and reinforces its commitment to a sustainable future. By harnessing renewable energy sources, SodaStream aims to significantly reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable world.
