Nestlé Amplifies Global Fight Against Hunger Through Partnership with The Global FoodBanking Network

Nestlé has formalized its collaboration with The Global FoodBanking Network (GFN) by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), underscoring their shared commitment to combatting global hunger. This partnership is built on the foundation of Nestlé’s history of product donations to GFN food banks, with an annual average of 5.2 million kilos of donated products. The agreement aims to enhance these efforts across Nestlé’s global operations.

Nina Kruchten, Head of Corporate Giving and Community Engagement at Nestlé, emphasized the company’s dedication to reducing food insecurity through product donations, shared meals, and services. This is part of Nestlé’s broader strategy to support community food access initiatives. In 2023, Nestlé’s contributions in product donations amounted to CHF 135.4 million globally, reflecting the company’s role in addressing food access challenges.

Ignacio Gavilán, Senior Director of Food Systems Partnerships at GFN, highlighted the essential role of food banks in responding to community hunger needs and reducing food loss and waste, ensuring that nutritious food reaches those who require it. Nestlé’s contributions are critical to these efforts, facilitating the delivery of essential food supplies to various communities.

The partnership between Nestlé and GFN has led to several collaborative initiatives aimed at enhancing food security. In Australia and New Zealand, Nestlé worked with Foodbank Australia and New Zealand to distribute over 1.7 million servings of a specially created recipe base, enabling individuals to prepare meals from food hamper ingredients. In Malaysia, partnerships with The Lost Food Project and Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia resulted in donations benefiting 630,000 families. In Egypt, collaboration with the Egyptian Food Bank led to the distribution of over a million servings of essential products, supplemented by employee volunteering efforts. Following floods in Thessalia, Greece, Nestlé partnered with the Greek Food Bank to provide essential products to affected communities. In Switzerland, particularly in Canton de Vaud, Nestlé’s long-term product donations and volunteering efforts support 10,000 individuals and families weekly. After Hurricane Otis hit Acapulco, Mexico, Nestlé contributed essential products and financial support to aid the relief effort.

The MOU between Nestlé and GFN facilitates increased collaboration across Nestlé entities and GFN food bank members, aiming to enhance the quality and increase the number of partnerships to support food banks better.icon
