The Dubai Chamber of Commerce has launched the Solar & Renewable Energy Business Group to encourage the adoption of renewable energy among businesses and the private sector in Dubai. The business group aims to boost awareness of clean energy targets and provide insights to businesses on transitioning to renewable energy, supporting and accelerating Dubai’s energy transition and making the emirate a hub for the green economy. The launch of the business group comes as the UAE works towards achieving its clean energy targets outlined in the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to reduce the carbon footprint on power generation by 70%, improve energy efficiency by 40%, increase the contribution of clean energy from 25% to 50%, and save a total of AED 700 billion. Dubai has also set its own clean energy target of producing 75% of its energy demand from clean sources by 2050.
Potential environmental impact
The adoption of renewable energy can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to a more sustainable future. By promoting the use of clean energy, the Solar & Renewable Energy Business Group can help Dubai achieve its clean energy targets and transition to a more sustainable energy system. The group’s efforts to increase awareness and uptake of renewable energy among businesses and the private sector can also help drive the development of clean energy projects and technologies, further contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the protection of natural resources.
