A recent global survey involving 4,000 businesses has highlighted a critical oversight in the integration of ESG (environmental, social, and governance) goals with technology infrastructure. Despite 83% of businesses establishing ESG targets, a staggering 40% have not considered the environmental impact of their technology hardware, including mobile devices, laptops, and tablets. This disconnect is particularly alarming given the considerable carbon emissions, water usage, and raw material mining associated with electronics manufacturing.
Enter Alchemy, a pioneer in sustainable technology, which has taken a groundbreaking step to address this issue. In collaboration with Greenly, a leading carbon-accounting platform, Alchemy has emerged as the sole device refurbisher to certify the carbon emissions savings of each refurbished device. This initiative not only provides businesses with a transparent view of their technology’s environmental footprint but also showcases their dedication to sustainability and progress toward ESG commitments.
Stephen Wise, Alchemy’s Global Marketing Director for Circular Economy, emphasizes the critical nature of incorporating technology’s environmental and financial impacts into Net Zero strategies. “Reducing emissions is paramount,” Wise asserts, underscoring the urgency for businesses to align their technology procurement with broader sustainability goals.
The partnership with Greenly enables Alchemy to offer detailed insights into the CO2 footprint of its refurbished devices, covering logistics, processing, distribution, and the comprehensive lifecycle of each product. By opting for refurbished over new devices, businesses can avoid an average of 76.05kg of CO2 emissions per device, marking a significant step toward environmental sustainability.
Alchemy’s collaboration with Greenly not only furthers the cause of circular economy practices but also simplifies sustainability reporting for businesses. This initiative marks a significant milestone in marrying ESG goals with technology considerations, paving the way for a more sustainable and responsible approach to business operations.
