Abu Dhabi’s Aldar Properties Unveils Plan to Achieve Net-Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050

Aldar Properties, Abu Dhabi’s largest developer by market value, has announced its plan to become a carbon-neutral company by 2050, in line with the UAE’s net-zero 2050 initiative. The company has set “science-aligned 2030 interim targets” that will help it achieve net zero in its Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Additionally, the developer aims to achieve a 45% reduction in its Scope 3 emissions by the end of this decade, compared to its 2021 baseline levels.

Potential environmental impact:

Aldar’s comprehensive plan to decarbonise its business could have a significant impact on the real estate industry in the Middle East. The company plans to address direct emissions and embodied carbon in all its developments and projects, as well as emissions associated with its supply chain and tenants. This could set a new standard for the region in terms of depth and detail for net-zero plans in the real estate industry. The UAE’s aggressive pursuit of reducing its carbon footprint, along with Aldar’s plan, could also inspire other companies in the region to unveil their own net-zero plans.icon
